Glennie Sayre passed on to her final home on April 26, 2020. For the past five years she had been a resident of Brown Deer Senior Living in Coralville. She was 87 years of age.
Glennie Eileen Lane Sayre was born in Jefferson on October 31,1932, to Thomas Boston and Erma Caroline Lane. She was educated at Bristol # 6 and the Jefferson school system, graduating with the class of 1951.
She married Bernard Joseph (B.J.) Sayre and to this union two daughters were born. In 1961 the family moved to Hartley, remaining there for 32 years. While living in Hartley, she was a member of the Methodist Church and Yadnom Club, holding most of the offices in both. While raising her children she maintained a sewing business in her home. Later she worked as a legal secretary for Hamilton Law Office and then as a part- time secretary and bookkeeper for Ruby Implement and Hartley Foods. She retired when her husband became ill.
After B.J.’s death in 1992, Glennie returned to Jefferson to help care for her parents. She worked part- time at Jefferson Monument and the Jefferson public library while serving the community with her alteration business. She loved sewing, flowers of all kinds, reading and playing bridge. She had a love for animals, especially cats. For several years she and B.J. taught ballroom dance and duplicate bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother and brother-in-law. She is survived by her daughters Debra Deters and Michele Sayre; sister Lessie Sloan; grandchildren Neil (Kristy) Arends, Nikki Langrehr, Nathan (Sarah) Deters, two brand new great-granddaughters Leny Deters and Winter Arends; nephews Dave (Alicia), Aaron and Tom Sloan; niece Bambi Sloan; other relatives and friends.
Glennie will be interred at Greenbrier Township Cemetery at a future date. No public services are planned at this time. Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson, 515-386-2171.
